Library Click and Collect and Covid-19 Updates
We have had to make some changes to the regular running of the library to ensure the safety of all our users. For the time being students are unable to browse books on the library shelves and should instead use our “click and collect” service to borrow books. An outline of this can be found below:
• Students request a book using our online library catalogue or by filling in a reader questionnaire.
• Students can access the Library Catalogue by clicking here. Log in instructions have been emailed to students and there is also a user guide available in students’ year group areas in Teams.
• If a student is unsure of what they would like to read, they can fill in this form and the school librarian will select a book based on their interests. (A paper copy can also be collected from the librarian.)
• Requested books will be delivered to students during tutor time.
We have also introduced a new timetable for lunchtime and after-school access to ensure that students do not mix across their bubbles. Students who would like to attend after school sessions should ensure that a parent/ carer signs them up, using the online form sent in the weekly newsletter.
If you If you have any questions or would like further support, please contact the librarian on: email@example.com
At the Academy we have a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, many of which are quizzed on Accelerated Reader. To know if a book is quizzed just look at the spine! If it’s quizzed it should have a coloured dot so you can easily see if the book you want is suitable for your reading ability. You can also check if the books you have at home have an Accelerated Reader quiz by checking here. Find out more about Accelerated Reader here, or take a quiz here.
We have a dedicated 6th Form space tucked in the corner of the Library, complete with a table for study, 6th Form books and a whiteboard. The Library is open all day so you are welcome to visit during your study periods. You can check if there’s a Guided Reading session by looking at the timetable displayed at the Library entrances or in the 6th Form common room.
Key Stage 3:
In Years 7 and 8 you will participate in Guided Reading. This is in addition to English lessons and takes place during lesson time in the Library. During this hour you will work in small groups with a teacher to practice reading out loud and discussing books.
Year 7 also receive a Library Induction lesson at the beginning of their time at the academy to allow them to familiarise themselves with the books and resources on offer.
Searching for and reserving books:
Using our online portal you’re able to search the library database, reserve books, write book reviews and see what your peers are reading. Have a look at our online library catalogue here.
There are also lots of opportunities to get involved in Library life. Throughout your time at the Academy you are able to suggest books for your Librarian to buy! The Library is yours so we want to hear any suggestions you have. Furthermore, all students are welcome to join our library clubs, and in Year 8 and beyond, you have the opportunity to become a Pupil Librarian.
If you have a suggestion you can email the Librarian at: Library@open-academy.org.uk
