At Open Academy we aim to inspire all our students to make the best transition into the right choice for their next steps, whether that is employment, further or higher education, and to support students in the development of the skills needed to manage a fulfilling career in a changing world.  Raising aspiration, encouraging achievement and creating awareness are the main goals of our careers provision.

In common with all secondary school across the UK, Open Academy is working towards achieving the careers standards outlined by the Government in 2017 known as the ‘Gatsby Benchmarks’.  These require students to have access to -

1.    A stable careers programme

2.    Learning from career and labour market information

3.    Addressing the needs of each student

4.    Linking the curriculum to knowledge of careers

5.    Encounters with employers and employees

6.    Experiences of workplaces

7.    Encounters with further and higher education

8.    Personal guidance

The benchmarks set out best practice for independent and impartial careers provision and Open Academy is currently in partnership with a range of local organisations in order to achieve this.  Our careers partners are the Norwich Opportunity Area, New Anglia Hub, Careers and Enterprise Company, UEA Outreach, Beacon East and NEACO (Network for East Anglian Collaborative Outreach)

Careers co-ordination is led by Ms Caroline Davies who organises mentoring, external visits and school events. In addition, many teachers are involved in the delivery of subject-specific careers information, leading visits to businesses and competing in inter-school challenges.  Students also have the opportunity in PSHE lessons to create their own careers profile, build a CV and learn about the application processes.  Ms Davies can be contacted by email at or by telephone 01603 481672.
